UI + ARTSTYLE UPGRAGE
Along side our reworking of the games UX, an opportunity to upgrade the look and feel presented itself. Making sure to lean into the XCOM brand, we established a ‘Graphic Tech’ style that would help us emphasis information and data.
XCOM LEGENDS - UI
LIVING, BREATHING…
To assist our new design/art style we it needed to add movement. In the context of user interfaces, motion is more than a visual garnish, it encompass’s all of the subtle and dramatic ways we are able to bring the XCOM world to life.
The goal was simple, lean into the XCOM brand, make this feel “lived in” and apart of that universe, the art style dictates movement, and most importantly help direct our users through this experience. In order to accomplish this I created some guidelines and visual examples of how we should tackle motion/animation across the game.
MOTION + FX
Using the rules and guidelines that were established for motion, I was spearheaded the creation of new animations + FX across the games revamp. I wanted the UI to feel reactive, when users take action anywhere there should be some kind of feedback.
MOODBOARD AND EXPLORATION
Leaning into Sci-Fi references with premium minimal design, emphasizing information and data . Shooting for a “graphic tech” aesthetic without it going overboard with bits and pieces. Additionally, vibrant color accents and bold marketing graphics can enhance memorability and player engagement.
